The Nigerian singer D’Banj have been arrested by the ICPC over alleged N-Power Fraud…
D’banj arrested: In a recent report released by Premium Times, The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offence Commission (ICPC)
have arrested Nigerian singer Oladapo Oyebanji popularly known as D’Banj.
The singer was arrested and detained on Tuesday by the ICPC after they closed in on him, and forced him
to surrender at the ICPC headquarters in Abuja. It was also reported that, D’Banj has been dodging
summons for weeks claiming to have a concert abroad anytime he was invited for interrogations related to the
fraud allegations.
D’banj is currently accused of fraudulently diverting hundreds of millions allocated to the N-Power project, assigned by the
Government which is meant to be an empowerment programme set up by the government in 2016 to address youth
unemployment as well as increase social development.
Evidence shows that D’Banj connived with some compromised government officials to introduce ghost beneficiaries
into the scheme’s payroll in order to divert funds. They divert stipends into these fake accounts of beneficiaries which are also
linked to the pop star.
After D’Banj failed to show up multiple times for interrogation, the ICPC decided to make a public arrest on
him wherever he is found whether in Nigeria or abroad. This move by the ICPC forced the singer to show up at the commission’s
office in Abuja on Tuesday, 6th December, 2022.
So on arrival, D’banj was subjected to long hours of interrogation and was detained immediately afterwards but he pleaded
for bail because he felt he turned himself in which was rejected on the premise that he could not be trusted to show up for trial if granted bail.
