Position Summary:
Mastercard Data & Services is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join their Technical Foundations program – Design Systems team. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will work on the development of a React-based design system and other core front-end technologies and systems that enhance product development on their platform. You’ll be part of a flexible team, and your contributions will include designing, building, and testing features without rigid organizational structures. Your work will be collaborative and focused on delivering a high-quality user experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and build composable, reusable, responsive, and accessible React components
- Develop tooling and resources to enhance the experience for teams using the design system
- Maintain legacy JavaScript applications and libraries
- Collaborate with designers and product teams to seamlessly integrate the design system into product development
- Conduct code reviews and provide constructive feedback to team members
- Advocate for best practices in design and development
- Ensure the design system and front-end infrastructure remain modern and powerful
- Mentor and provide guidance to other team members
Qualifications:
- Front-end development experience with a strong focus on design systems
- Proficiency in React.js and related front-end technologies
- Understanding of programming languages/technology stacks, primarily TypeScript, JavaScript, React, and CSS
- Familiarity with design systems, design tokens, and component-based UI development
- Knowledge of relevant tools such as Storybook, Figma, NPM, etc.
- Working knowledge of accessibility best practices, including WCAG standards and ARIA
- Familiarity with front-end testing frameworks
- Strong knowledge of UI/UX principles and accessibility standards
- Ability to learn and work in different parts of the stack
- Interest in improving end-user and developer experiences
- Effective communication and collaboration skills
- Experience with agile methodologies and DevOps practices

Pay Range:
- Arlington, Virginia: $129,000 – $199,000 USD
